Very good station
Picturesque. Station has reasonable facilities.
Central Station was a state of the art building in it's day of the highest quality. It's old now with tons of history, but it's still a magnificent building which is kept clean and tidy and is well run. It has several small shops and a cafe. The toilets are kept very clean. It has plenty of good quality regular trains to just about everywhere, and there's a handy entrance down into the Metro line which is also a great service with clean smart carriages. These give you great views of the River Tyne right down to the seaside.
Always clean and tidy. Trains have always been running to time whenever I've been there. Easy to get in and out, and the metro is good too.
N.B. Most reviews/photos posted here erroneously relate to the overground train station rather than underground metro station.Good access to Newcastle Central Station (by escalator/stairs or lift) plus adjoining streets but appallingly dismal makeover with dingy black and blue panelling having replaced the original light cream and yellow ... just as well some comfortable seats - although few in number - have finally been installed and one usually doesn't have to wait very long for a (metro) train!!
