You'll find that when you ring Safestore in Newcastle that they remarkably have a unit that's just right for you, the guys - Martin and David won't be able to do enough for you - the price is a little high - they'll do you a fantastic deal, after all they won't be beaten on price. So you'll think you've got an amazing deal - you'll move all of your stuff in and everything will be great for a short while. I wanted my unit indefinitely but after nine months they TRIPLED, yes that's right TRIPLED the cost of my storage unit. No explanation other than rising costs, yes costs rise but they don't triple in nine months. I still got the smiles and charm from Martin and David but they were unable to do anything there hands were tied, it was head offices decision. So I tried to contact head office, apparently the only way to contact them is via email (which they don't answer) if you ring their telephone number you reach a PR team who will tell you that the prices of the units are solely at the discretion of the managers of the specific Safestore - Martin and David in this case, so you're back to square one. They're still smiling at you, telling you there's nothing that they can do, its head offices decision blah blah blah. So after a look around I found much better storage - more sq m storage for my money, a better price, a guarantee of no ridiculous price hikes and a better maintained facility but the cost to me time wise - having to prepare everything to be moved and finance wise - having to pay for the removal of goods from one place to another and a deposit on another unit was obviously something I could have done without. Safestore are a fantastic company when things are going well but when you start to have a problem you realise that there is nothing behind the fake smiles and charm, it is essentially just a front for getting as much money as they can in quieter months by offering deals, then they raise the price ridiculously in the busier months hoping that you'll either pay it or move out so they can sell it at a premium to some other poor soul they've whitewashed with their well honed sales patter. When things do go wrong they will send you in circles looking for the person who's responsible. In my experience, there is no accountability beyond the manager of that particular Safestore and in this instance he wasn't accountable when things went wrong. I would never ever do business with these people again and if you are thinking of renting a unit from Safestore please go in with your eyes open and be aware that if you are looking for a long term storage solution there is a good chance that after a few months you too may face a disproportionate price hike or if you have any kind of problem that the charming David and Martin cant resolve that you may be left with nowhere else to go for a satisfactory resolution.
